This reproduction step stool is one of my favorite projects to make. It not only looks great with its classic design that fits into just about any home decor, but it’s also incredibly functional. There are two steps for extended reach in the space of a single-step stool and storage is facilitated through the integrated sliding step. There’s also a built-in carry handle in the top step to aid in handling.
One of the things that I love about working with wood is taking lumber in its “raw” form — just a pile of gnarly, rough planks — and transforming it through a number of process steps into something that is beautiful to behold and a joy to use. This artistic alchemy never fails to fascinate me that I’m able to facilitate this type of transformation with my own hands and I love watching a project come together. And the really special part for me is when I have the opportunity to share my work with people who really enjoy & appreciate handmade pieces. Woodworking is definitely a part of my spirituality and I thought it might be interesting to to share the transformation of this little stepstool in pictures – check out the slide show below!
